on holiday

***Blogger has had some major hiccups recently. You should now be able to comment on posts; sorry for any confusion.

I spent most of the holiday weekend outside, which made me incredibly happy. On Saturday, the farmers’ market was busier than I’ve ever seen it, which was weird because we don’t even have that much produce out yet. Mostly root veggies and plants. I bought basil plants and local eggs.

I left the basil for my mom to take care of…we all know that I’d probably kill it. I’m hoping it will grow a lot in the next couple of weeks, so I can make pesto when I visit again.

Visited Oddside Ales. a tiny brewery in Grand Haven, MI. Coffeehouse feel, good selection of craft beer (I sampled a raspberry wheat), and good company. I would definitely visit again.

Monday was pretty much the only nice day out of the holiday weekend, and at 82 (heat index of 90), this called for ice cream.

We also took a family outing to the driving range. Let it be known that I have no patience for golf. I can drive decently but not always straight, and my putting skills are more appropriate for miniature golf.

Also, it should be noted that I don’t even remember the last time I swung a golf club, and today my back and shoulders feel like an elephant crushed them. Yoga is probably in order.

So sad that the holiday weekend had to end…it’s back to the grind but thankfully only a 4 day week.

What did you do this weekend?

It’s 91 in Ann Arbor today…time to get out my best salad recipes.

  1. This post makes me want to go hit some golf balls, it's been too long!

And after I hit those golf balls in my imaginary world, I'll eat an ice cream cone ;)

  2. sounds like a great weekend! the weather is so nice to e outdoor! :)
we spent the weekend at home relaxing and doing shopping fr my upcoming trip!

  3. that ice cream looks so good!

i am terrible at golf as well, so no worries. :)

my weekend was spent working at mott on saturday and sunday, but monday was a nice day by the pool and sushi for dinner. always a good plan.

  4. Sounds like you had a nice weekend Emily! NIck has yet to ask me to golf with him this year, thank goodness. It's actually my forearms that get really sore when I golf. It always kills.

Our garden has been plated, but Nick is doing all the work (because, like you and basil, I'm bad at just about any garden....). I like to watch it grow, but I hate being out there with all the bugs and humidity. Bugs LOVE me, and they stay away from Nick, I swear.

    Have a great week!

  5. I worked all weekend (booo.......), but just the hint of sun made me smile! That ice cream looks like perfection...

  6. I've been so mia on the blogosphere, but always great to catch up with you. Looks like some lovely farmer's market time recently! How do you like nutrition support? I actually don't mind the TPN calcs, hehe. : ) I arrived safely in Belgium today, so I'm quite excited. Work starts on Monday.

  12. Ew, 91º? Is that normal for Ann Arbor? I thought it would be cooler for some reason...

    More ice cream!

  13. Sounds like a nice weekend!

I would actually love some warmer weather. It's been really cold here in Northern California... We went up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend, where there was plenty of snow left and it was in the 40s...
